ELSA
At St Ethelbert’s Primary School, we are committed to supporting the emotional well-being of our students. Our Emotional Literacy Support Assistants are: Mrs Dyl-Wilk and Miss Anderton. Our ELSAs are trained staff members who have been supporting children's social and emotional well-being since 2018. They provide valuable support to children from Nursery to Year 6. ELSA interventions aim to improve students' emotional literacy, which includes the ability to recognise, understand, and manage their own emotions, as well as to understand and respond appropriately to the emotions of others.
Interventions are delivered in a safe and supportive environment, in a designated area within the school. Sessions may focus on various areas, such as managing strong emotions, building social skills, improving self-esteem, and developing strategies for coping with difficult situations. Mrs Dyl-Wilk and Miss Anderton work with students individually or in small groups. ELSA sessions are run once a week for approximately an hour and our programmes run for 6-12 weeks.
