Catholic Life

An education in the fullness of humanity should be the defining feature of Catholic schools.’

Pope Francis

At St Ethelbert’s, the Catholic Life of the school is given the highest priority where the development of an authentic Catholic ethos is actively sought by all. It underpins our daily routines, our practices, policies and procedures. This allows our pupils to have a thorough understanding of the Church’s liturgical year, its seasons, and symbols.

Our pupils engage in daily prayer so that they can become closer to God, irrespective of ability or faith background. The children know they are loved, that they are made in the image of God and that all staff care deeply about their wellbeing and their love of learning.

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” – Genesis 1:27

The Catholic life of our school is rich in opportunities for children to encounter God and to deepen their relationship with Him. We do this through formal and informal prayer, Religious Education lessons, celebration of the sacraments of the Church, charity work and supporting our local community so that our pupils make the strongest possible contribution to the Common Good of all. With Jesus as our example, we encourage our pupils to live out the Catholic Social Teaching principles so that they become ‘fully alive’.
